Senior Activity Calendar 2009-2010
Remember Your Graduation is Your Responsibility!
AUGUST - SEPTEMBER
- Make sure you are in the correct classes to meet graduation requirements.
- Remember that you need at least 40 hours of Community Service for graduation. Turn in all hours that you have completed.
- Scholarship programs. Make sure to fill out a Scholarship Profile and turn it in to your Counselor.
- Be sure to check out the new COLLEGE CENTER and visit ETS, EAOP and Upward Bound.
- Narrow your college choices down. Three to six selections are sufficient in most cases.
- Make copies of all forms you mail. Ask for a certificate of mailing at the post office.
- Begin to write a personal statement for UC and or private colleges. See your English teacher or counselor.
- Bring a copy of your parents tax forms to Lupe in the Guidance Office for an SAT and/or ACT fee wavier
- If you are applying to a UC school you also need to register and take at least 2 SAT Subject tests.
- Register for the SAT by Sept. 9th for the Oct. 10th test.
- Register for the SAT by October 1st for the November 7th test.
- Register for the ACT by August 7th for the September 12th test. Sign up for the writing portion if you are applying to UC schools.
- Register for the ACT by September 18th for the October 24th test. Sign up for the writing portion if you are applying to UC schools.
- Review your transcript; meet with your counselor to sign up for credit recovery classes before August 28th.
- Mid-year graduates meet with your counselor to request petition
- Do you owe Saturday Schools? Check with the Attendance Office. They must be cleared for you to participate in your graduation ceremony.
- Do you owe money for textbooks? Check with the Library for a list of money you owe.
- Memorize your Social Security Number. You’ll need it for college applications, scholarships, and the FAFSA.

OCTOBER
- Applications for the California State Universities will be available online. Apply at www.CSUMentor.edu. Apply early!
- Apply for EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) at http://www.CSUMentor.edu/planning/eop, they will help you with counselors, tutors, and other resources while at the University.
- Cabrillo College applications will be available from your counselor.
- Applying to a private college? Check their website for application deadlines and details. Many schools use www.commonapp.org
- SAT Reasoning/SAT Subject test October 10th.
- CAHSEE- October 6th and 7th
- ACT test October 24th
- If you are considering college sports, you must establish your eligibility through the NCAA Clearinghouse. Register online at http://www.ncaaclearinghouse.net
- College Night at WHS- October 6th at 6:30pm
- Make all requests for letters of recommendation at least two weeks before the deadline. Complete a Brag Sheet with your counselor!!
- College application help available during lunch and after school in the College Center.
- Register for the SAT Reasoning or Subject Exams by October 1st for the November 7th test date.
- Register for the SAT Reasoning or Subject Exams by October 30th for the December 5th test date.
- Remember to send your SAT and/or ACT scores to the Universities that you are applying to.

NOVEMBER
- November 1st through 30th is the application filing period for UC campuses. Apply at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions
- College Awareness Month! Wear your college apparel!
- Mid-year graduate petitions for early graduation due November 2nd. See your counselor for details.
- College and Career Night will be held in the Cabrillo College gym on Nov. 2nd, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Representatives of many public and private colleges, as well as technical and vocational schools, will be present. Important financial aid information sessions will be presented as well.
- SAT Reasoning/SAT Subject test November 7th.
- Register for the ACT by November 6th for the December 12th test.
- UC Personal Statement Workshop 11/3, 2-4pm in the WHS Career Center

DECEMBER
- December is the last recommended month to take ACT, SAT Reasoning/SAT Subject.
- CAHSEE Saturday, Dec. 5th ELA and Saturday, Dec. 12th Math
- Obtain a pin number at www.pin.ed.gov. You and one of your parents will need pin numbers to apply online for Financial Aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- December 7th- Financial Aid presentations in 12th grade classrooms
- December 8th - Financial Aid Night 6:30pm in the WHS Library
- Check with your counselor to be sure you are on track for graduation in June.
- Complete application for Cabrillo College Running Start Early Assessment

JANUARY
- The FAFSA can be filed online AFTER January 1st www.fafsa.ed.gov. Deadline is Mar. 2nd for California aid. Don’t forget your GPA Verification Form (Turn in your Social Security number to Ana Duque-school registrar). Go to the College Center at Lunch or After School for help.
- January 26th- FAFSA Parent Night
- Community Hours due in to registrar’s office (All 40 hours!) by January 15th.
- The deadline for filing the CSS/financial Aid PROFILE varies. Contact colleges for this deadline.
- Get a copy of your transcript to make sure you’re on the right track to graduate.
- If you still need to make up graduation requirements, see your counselor to sign up for Adult Ed., P.A.S.S., Extended Learning, Cabrillo College or Independent Study.
- Check your email regularly. That is how colleges, universities, and FAFSA will communicate with you.

FEBRUARY
- CAHSEE: February 2nd & February 3rd
- February 24th- FAFSA Parent Night
- Highlight to the Future Conference February 6th
- Review and update Student Aid Report (SAR) which is the response to the FAFSA. (see counselor)
- Complete Community College applications
- Cabrillo College Assessment- Date to be announced
- If you are attending a CSU, register to take the college entrance assessments ELM/EPT (see counselor)

MARCH
- CAHSEE: March 16th & March 17th
- March 2nd is the deadline to submit FAFSA, www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Applications for the WHS Local Scholarship Program are available March 1st in the Guidance Office. Deadline to submit to guidance office is March 26th by 4:00 pm.
- Take Cabrillo College assessment.
- WHS Open House 3/31 at 6:30

- Return student intent to register forms to the UC campuses before the May 1 deadline.
