Dr. Nancy
Giberson, born in
Watsonville, attended Mintie White elementary school, E.A. Hall, and Watsonville
High School. As an E.A. Hall student, Nancy set a record in the 660 yd.
run at the CA State Track Championship, a record that lasted eight
years. While attending WHS, Nancy
was voted "Best All Around" by her senior class and Basketball Sweetheart by the
Varsity Basketball Team. As a senior she served as ASB Vice President; served as
Junior Class Treasurer, Sophomore Class Secretary and Freshman Class ASB
Representative. Nancy's father,
Augustus (Gus), also attended Watsonville High School and
served the Watsonville area as a physician for over 50 years. Her mother, Ruth, also a California
native, taught in the fine arts department of WHS and
briefly at E.A. Hall (she was Nancy's 7th grade art
teacher!).
After graduating in 1967, Nancy began her college career at the
University of Colorado receiving her B.A. in Pre-Medicine; and Fine Arts. She received her M.A. in Educational
Technology and Librarianship at California State University, San Diego, and her
Ph.D. in Leardership and Organizational Development from the United States
International University in San Diego and is a Fellow at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA.
She was also a Visiting Practitioner at Harvard University. Dr. Giberson's career includes being a
High School Assistant Principal and Principal, an Assistant Superintendent at
the Santa Cruz County Office of Education and presently as an Assistant
Superintendent in the Learning Resources and Educational Technology Division of
the San Diego County Office of Education.
In her current position she is responsible for the Division ($32,000,000) and for all division
activities and services provided to 42 San Diego County school districts in
support of the development and improvement of curriculum, instruction,
assessment, and educational technology. She supports activities of the
Superintendent's Technology Advisory Committee, including facilitating
development of an Academic Data Management Consortium for over 130,000 ADA from
22 districts. She serves as liaison to the California Department of Education
for the county of San Diego, Orange, and Imperial. Nancy is the chair elect for the state
level Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee, working with appropriate
staff at the California Department of Education in support of policies important
to county offices and to education
statewide.
Dr. Giberson has received many honors, including the Soroptimist Woman of
Action, President's Council Woman of Achievement, ACSA's Exemplary Service
Award, ACSA Partners in Educational Excellence Award, California Reading
Association's Outstanding Leadership Award, the Santa Cruz County Sustainable
Quality Award, and ACSA's Administrator of the
Year.
